The Lost Children of Paradise Bletchingley 1 st of March

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Paul Chisholm's "The Lost Children of Paradise" Exhibition at Bletchingley Community Centre

Bletchingley, Surrey—On March 1, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the Bletchingley Community Centre will host a one-day solo exhibition by contemporary British artist Paul Chisholm. Titled "The Lost Children of Paradise," the exhibition features Chisholm's latest series of paintings depicting clowns, reflecting both the artist's emotional states and serving as a mirror to society and its ills.

Chisholm's artistic practice revolves around conceptual explorations of identity, gender, and politics, incorporating various media including painting, photography, installation, and objects. His works possess a strong communicative quality, bearing messages garnished with both humour and pain. The confluence of bright colours and bold puns unveils the double entendre behind every visual.

Born in Canterbury in 1983 and raised in Royal Leamington Spa, Chisholm studied Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University (2004) and completed his MA at Chelsea College of Arts in London (2020). His work often deals with his diagnosis as an openly HIV-positive person and reflects upon his own identity as a contemporary British queer artist.

"The Lost Children of Paradise" series delves into the paradoxical nature of the clown figure, which masks true sadness with makeup and flamboyance. Chisholm uses this imagery to comment on societal contradictions, exploring themes of isolation, resilience, and the human condition.

This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to engage with Chisholm's thought-provoking work, which subtly criticizes social and political circumstances through layers of personal history and emotional depth.
